The adventure has begun!
After a four-hour journey, our Gold Duke of Edinburgh team has safely arrived in the beautiful Peak District for their final assessed expedition.
The students wasted no time settling into camp, pitching their tents before enjoying a stunning sunset over the surrounding hills. After spending the afternoon in the minibus, they were keen to stretch their legs with a lively game of rounders, and spirits are high ahead of the challenge that lies ahead.
As the evening draws to a close, it's almost bedtime. Tomorrow marks Day 1 of their four-day expedition, where they'll put months of preparation, navigation, teamwork and resilience to the test.
Everyone at the DofE team wishes them the very best of luck. Sleep well, enjoy the adventure, and make every step count. The journey starts tomorrow!

MONDAY
After a windy night under the stars, our Gold Duke of Edinburgh team woke up refreshed and ready for the first day of their final assessed expedition.
A hearty breakfast of porridge helped fuel the team for the miles ahead, although one unexpected visitor seemed determined to claim a share! Our resident campsite chicken spent the morning confidently wandering between the tents, eyeing up bowls of porridge and hoping the students might be willing to sacrifice a few mouthfuls for breakfast. Thankfully, the students managed to protect their supplies... this time!
With maps folded, compasses set and rucksacks packed, the teams have now set off towards Checkpoint 1, ready to put their navigation skills, teamwork and resilience into practice.
The adventure is officially underway. Good luck, everyone—we'll be cheering you on every step of the way!

Gold Duke of Edinburgh Expedition – Day 1 | Checkpoint 1
Checkpoint 1 complete!
The Peak District certainly made our Gold teams work for it this morning. The climbs were a real test, but every step was rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views across the hills. While some students were more than happy to admire the scenery, others were already asking when they could get back down to lower ground!
Our expedition aim projects are now well underway. Group One has made a fantastic start to their wildlife survey and is hoping to spot some cows on the next leg of their journey. Meanwhile, Group Two has been exploring the incredible biodiversity of the Peak District, taking time to observe and record the variety of habitats and species around them.
With the sun now making a welcome appearance, it was time for a generous layer of sunscreen, plenty of water, and a quick rest before setting off towards Checkpoint 2.
The Peak District never disappoints—challenging climbs, unforgettable views and another reminder of why it's such a special place to explore.
Keep going, Gold team!

TUESDAY
The Silver team has now arrived safely from Drapers' and, after a lively evening filled with laughter, stories and plenty of friendly conversation with our Gold participants, everyone enjoyed a well-earned night's sleep.
The morning started with a hot breakfast to warm everyone up, as the Peak District reminded us that even in summer, the wind chill can be a little brisk!
With rucksacks packed, maps checked and compasses at the ready, both our Silver and Gold teams have now set off on the first leg of today's expedition.
The Peak District has some truly spectacular scenery waiting for them today, and we're excited for our students to experience some of the most breathtaking landscapes the National Park has to offer. Along the way they'll continue to develop their navigation, teamwork and resilience while making memories that will last a lifetime.
We can't wait to catch up with everyone at Checkpoint 1 later today.
Good luck to both teams!

WEDNESDAY
The Peak District certainly put our Silver and Gold teams to the test yesterday. Steep climbs, warm weather, and long miles made for a challenging day, but every effort was rewarded with breathtaking views and the immense satisfaction of overcoming a genuinely tough physical and mental challenge.
This morning, however, both teams woke with a renewed sense of energy and determination. Perhaps they're taking inspiration from the Three Lions and hoping Harry Kane and the boys can do the nation proud tonight! With plenty of fire in their bellies (helped along by a mountain of porridge!), the teams made an early start to stay ahead of the heat and continue their adventure.
As always, the Peak District is providing a spectacular backdrop to the expedition, while our students continue to develop the skills that make the Duke of Edinburgh's Award so special - navigation, teamwork, resilience, leadership and keeping one another safe.
Every mile walked is another step towards an incredible achievement, and we couldn't be prouder of the determination and positivity shown by all our students.
Good luck to both teams today, you've got this!

THURSDAY
What a journey it has been!
Our Gold and Silver teams have now reached their penultimate checkpoint, with just the iconic Stanage Edge standing between them and the finish line. One final push and they will complete an expedition that has tested every ounce of their determination, resilience and teamwork.
Over the past few days, the Peak District has challenged our students with steep climbs, long distances, changing conditions and demanding navigation. Time and again, they have risen to every challenge. Their tenacity, team spirit and youthful enthusiasm have carried them this far and will undoubtedly see them across the finish line.
The expedition has also provided plenty of memorable moments. From our cheeky campsite chicken trying to steal breakfast to the friendly donkeys eagerly waiting for leftovers, there has been no shortage of smiles and laughter. Even England's disappointing World Cup result couldn't dampen the mood for long!
Every single student should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved. They have supported one another, overcome adversity and demonstrated exactly what the Duke of Edinburgh's Award is all about. As staff, we couldn't be prouder of their achievements both as individuals and as teams.
And, of course, there's one final reward waiting for them… a well-deserved service station stop on the journey home to fill some very empty stomachs before a chance to sit back, relax and enjoy a few hours of well-earned rest on the coach.
Congratulations to all of our Gold and Silver participants. You have been outstanding.
